Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has been named the most influential Big Brother Naija housemate of all time by viral social media ranking app, SocialCred.
Ebuka was a housemate on the first-ever edition of the show which was known at the time as ‘Big Brother Nigeria’. He was one of the more popular housemates in the show and was well-positioned to take home the grand prize. But he finished the show in eighth place. Katung Aduwak won.
At the end of his stint in the Big Brother Naija house, he went on to make a name for himself as an intelligent, insightful, and extremely capable TV host. He has since hosted several shows such as the Glo Show, Friend or Foe on NTA, The Spot on Ebonylife, Rubbin’ Minds on Channels TV, and several others.
By the time Big Brother returned to Nigeria after an 11-year break in 2017, he was poised to be the host. And he has been hosting the show for the past four seasons. His influence continues to grow each year.
The show itself is the biggest Big Brother franchise and the most popular Big Brother show in the world right now. BBNaija is truly a media and social phenomenon. Between July 19 and September 25, 2020, the show generated over 55 billion media impressions, with 7.7 million accounts using the word “BBNaija” over 20 million times on Twitter alone. This is according to data compiled by leading marketing, media and tech company, ID Africa.
As expected, Ebuka as the host of the show has enjoyed the benefits of BBNaija being so popular. SocialCred shows just how influential Ebuka has become over the course of his career.
According to Gbenga Sogbaike, Co-founder & CEO of Plaqad, the creators of SocialCred, the app was created to transparently analyse social media influence. He says, ‘SocialCred takes a fun and exciting approach to rank social media influence. It provides brands and influencers with a transparent and very accurate way to analyse social media influence and prevent fraud.’
The Plaqad SocialCred app is a free, viral social media clout ranking tool. The tool calculates the online influence of users based on key social media metrics like the number of followers, engagement rate per post, original vs shared post ratio and audience sentiment among others. It then rewards them with one of ten (10) ranks, each represented by cool badges they can share with their friends.
SocialCred ranks Ebuka as a ‘Socialite’ on Twitter, only three ranks short of ‘Icon’, the highest of all. Ebuka has 1,521,574 followers on Twitter, an original tweet vs retweet ratio of 2500:7, and an engagement rate of 0.12%. His tweets receive an average 38% positive response, 34% neutral, and a 28% negative response.
Ebuka’s Instagram page, currently at 2,461,334 million followers, displays his incredible and enviable fashion sense. The page commands an engagement rate of 1.01% alongside a total 23,543,782 million number of likes. These numbers fetch him the rank of a ‘Trendsetter’ on SocialCred; the highest by any Big Brother Naija housemate ever.
Femi Falodun, CEO of ID Africa, breaks down all of the reasons why Ebuka is the most successful and influential BBNaija housemate ever.
He says, ‘Ebuka is smart, witty and multitalented. More importantly, he has great public speaking and presentation skills which have kept him consistently in front of the camera on the biggest stages for so long. He looks good. He’s a fashion and style trendsetter. He never gets caught up in controversies or misbehaviour. He’s hardworking and has managed his industry relationships quite well. He’s also managed to keep his name and face in the public consciousness for years through smart use of traditional and social media; for example, his work on the weekly show, Rubbin’ Minds on Channels TV, and the other media and event hosting gigs, even before he became BBNaija host. All of these together have cemented his position as the most successful BBN alum of all time.’
No other alumnus of the Big Brother Naija franchise comes remotely close to Ebuka in terms of influence and sway. His top-notch work ethic and dedication to his craft are all reasons why he is the most influential Big Brother Naija Housemate ever.
