Director Adam Wingard is fresh off his latest movie Blair Witch, a sequel to 1999’s The Blair Witch Project.

Wingard has been speaking about his new upcoming movie, Death Note.

The movie is based on the Japanese manga and anime of the same name will be released sometime in 2017. It follows a high school student who comes into possession of a strange notebook that allows him kill anyone he wants , however he wants without being caught.

Adam Wingard happy to work with Netflix on Death Note

Both the anime and manga can get really gruesome at times. Wingard has said that part of the reason he was happy to be working on the movie with Netflix was the creative freedom to make the movie the way he wanted.

Unlike films that have theatrical releases, Netflix doesn’t have to abide by any rules or regulations. Allowing Wingard and his team to make the most gruesome version of the film they would want without having to go through the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) to get a rating.

As a result, the production team can stick to the adult material that Death Note is known for. They can also incorporate as much violence and nudity as they want.
