AKA covers the October Issue of GQ South Africa magazine.

The magazine which went on sale on Monday, had the headline: “AKA shoots from the hip”.

The 28-year-old is the first South African musician to cover GQ South Africa.

According to channels24.co.za, in the last five years, only three South Africans have featured on the GQ South Africa magazine cover which makes AKA the fourth South African to feature on SA’s forefront of men’s fashion, influence and innovation magazine in half a decade.

The rapper shared on his Instagram, Monday, with the caption: “@gqsouthafrica In stores now!!! When you get your copy, gram me so I can show you some love.”

GQ online content producer Christopher Mc Arthur had the interview with AKA, and his opinion read:

Rappers were once cold-shouldered by high fashion labels who didn’t get the music or understand the culture. When hip-hop became mainstream all that changed.

Fashion houses (in the main) went from ignoring rap to embracing its silver lining. Many big-name artists are now brand ambassadors for the luxury brands. AKA is as dapper a rapper as they come.

He knows a good thread when he sees one and isn’t afraid to express an opinion on fashion – and on pretty much anything else – to his 1.2m followers.
