The 2024 Miss Universe 1st runner-up, Chidimma Adetshina has said she will be relocating to Nigeria and the big question is whether this is a good decision or not.
The 23-year-old whose father is Nigerian, was crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania in Mexico on Saturday night stated her decision in a recent interview.
“I have already decided that I want to relocate to Nigeria,” Adetshina said.
The beauty queen also noted that she is not yet sure if she could go back to South Africa and that she would work with a lawyer in the hope of getting the situation resolved by the end of the year.
“I haven’t seen my family yet,” Adetshina also added when asked if she was able to see her child and if they would move with her to Nigeria.
“I’m really looking forward to that and I guess when we do meet we’ll be able to make this decision, because it is a hasty one,” she added.
It is to be recalled that Adetshina left South Africa after she pulled out of the Miss South Africa competition when her nationality was questioned.
The 23-year-old law student said she made the decision because she needed to protect herself and her family after the government alleged that her mother had stolen the identity of a South African woman.
Now that she is officially done with pageantry, her new location is Nigeria.
The first thought that comes to mind is that moving to Nigeria is a no-brainer for Adetshina.
She is after all, the reigning Miss Universe Nigeria and that will definitely come with some responsibilities she will be required to perform in the nation.
But then, let us not forget the fact that thousands of Nigerians her age, including celebrities, are actually seeking for means to japa i.e to run, flee, escape, or travel out of Nigerian to foreign countries in search of greener pastures.
They are running away from the country citing lack of reliable basic infrastructure, security concerns, corruption and poor governance according to a report by BBC.
A lot of them have only not done so because of the financial requirement.
This is why it comes as a surprise that she is choosing to relocate to Nigeria and possibly do so with her family.
But then, to be fair, Nigeria can be a great place for Chidimma Adetshina to actually thrive in.
If there is anything we are sure of, is the fact that the likes of Chidimma make it big in Nigeria…well with the right connections and management.
There are top brands lined up always looking for the hottest and biggest influencer to sign and Chidimma Adetshina definitely ticks all these boxes.
There is also the fact that she earlier said she has her sights on being on the next Big Brother Naija reality TV show.
“I want to enter Big Brother Naija next year. If I can stay away for seven weeks at Miss SA, trust me, I am sure I can do it,” she said in an earlier interview with cool FM.
This is in addition to other opportunities available to a young female celebrity in Nigeria.
But then, there is the issue of her education. She was an undergraduate studying law as of the time she started her pageantry journey.
Is she going to transfer to a Nigerian University to complete her education?
I just pictured Chidimma Adetshina in NYSC uniform…Not a bad sight though, that’s if she will graduate on time, because we all know how our Nigerian universities can be sometimes.
At the end of the day, we can all agree that relocating from South Africa was a given for Chidimma especially since she cited safety concerns when she dropped out from the Miss South Africa competition.
But for her next move to be to Nigeria, we can only hope she considered all her available options and Nigeria actually favours her….
