The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Tema Central Constituency, Charles Forson, has emerged victorious following the re-collation of election results conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Charles secured 18,870 votes, narrowly defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Ebi Bright, who garnered 18,815 votes. Independent candidate Fredrick Aniagyei placed a distant third with 229 votes.

The re-collation exercise was ordered by the Accra High Court as part of a directive to address disputes in nine constituencies across the country. The exercise, conducted under tight police and military security, took place at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office.

The court directive stemmed from petitions questioning the integrity of results in constituencies such as Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Eastern Region), Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, and Obuasi East (Ashanti Region), Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central (Greater Accra Region), as well as Techiman South (Bono East Region).

The court instructed the EC to complete the collation process and declare winners in accordance with electoral laws. It also ordered the Inspector-General of Police to ensure adequate security at the collation centres to maintain order and prevent disruptions.

The outcome has solidified Charles Forson’s position as the parliamentary representative for Tema Central, a key constituency in the Greater Accra Region. Forson’s win comes as a significant boost for the NPP, especially after earlier projections had favored Ebi Bright of the NDC.

With the Tema Central results finalized, attention now shifts to the remaining constituencies where re-collation is ongoing. The EC is expected to complete the exercise and declare results for these areas in the coming days, bringing clarity to the electoral disputes that have lingered since the initial polls.
