Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul” has passed away at age 76 following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Her family confirmed her passing in a statement this morning:
The “official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit,” the family statement said.
The music community and other public figures have taken to social media to honor the late singer, tweeting messages of support and remembrance for Aretha.
