Buju Banton sends touching message to his Fans ahead of release from prison

Buju Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, shared a message via social media to his fans ahead of his release from prison next month. The Jamaican musician expressed his eagerness to return to making music in a statement posted on his official Instagram account.

With only days before his prison release, Buju Banton remains positive and in great spirits.

“In light of the adversity I have encountered, I feel the need to stress that my only desire going forward is peace and love. I only want to be associated with my craft. Having survived, I want to share the good news and strength of my music. I just want to continue making music, which I’ve devoted my life to. I look forward to the opportunity to say a personal thanks to my fans and everyone who supported me,” Buju Banton expressed.

The Grammy-winning singjay is at the end of a 10-year sentence on drug-related offences. Buju Banton, who is serving time at the McRae Correctional Facility in Georgia, United States, is scheduled to be released from that facility on December 8, 2018.

Plans are currently underway for his first concert to be held at Grizzly’s Plantation Cover in Priory, St Ann, Jamaica in March of next year, according to sources. The Bahamas and Trinidad are also said to be on the roster of venues.

In 2016, he also reached out to fans, pleading with them “not be distracted by all the things that are taking place around them”. At the time, he also blasted contemporary music, describing it as “meaningless”.

“Tell my fans do not be distracted by all the things that are taking place around them because it is designed to throw them off kilter, to make moral decadence even more widespread than it already is, and plunge people into a state of darkness,” he charged in a statement published in Vibe Magazine’s popular Boomshots column.

“They’re trying to reverse the progress that we have made over the years through the music. And now the music is meaningless. It doesn’t stimulate, it doesn’t educate, it doesn’t reinvigorate. All it does is get you angry because it’s filled with nothing but narcissists exalting themselves over the earthly possessions that they have managed to get. They don’t even have anything—it’s crumbs. And therefore, the music is suffering. The people are suffering. Sadness and gloom is prevailing. It’s widespread. But be patient. Because suffering may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning,” he added.
