“If my own people don’t even see and recognize my work, how will Ninja Man in Jamaica know about my works?” (Black Prophet)
Black Prophet in response to Ninja Man’s comments on radio that he doesn’t know any Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall artiste, quickly responded to the claims. He gave a lengthy commentary on the issue, below are his words.
“Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. If he doesn’t listen to anybody’s music and just watch movies, he will not know other artistes. It means he is listening to his own music. Ninja Man is one of the legends in Jamaica Dancehall and I respect him for that. But if seriously he doesn’t listen to others, and it’s his choice. It is not all Jamaicans who listen to African music and it’s not all Africans who listen to Jamaican or Caribbean music too. That’s his opinion. If he says he doesn’t known Ghanaian music it doesn’t mean Ghana music will come to a standstill. Ninja Man is just a one man, it doesn’t mean other Jamaicans or Jamaican artistes don’t know us. If Dean Fraser can sign me as a Ghanaian artiste, what else do I need? Do I need to be bothered for Ninja Man to know me? Well, yes he doesn’t know me and it’s true he doesn’t know me. I am not disappointed at all. Nobody should judge him for that. It could be that he is genuinely saying the truth so nobody should grudge him for it. There are a lot of people who know Black Prophet. If you ask Buju Banton from prison he knows me, if you ask Tarrus Riley, Capleton, Beenie Man, Shabba Ranks, Coco Tea, Yellow Man, Duane Stephenson, Fantan Mojah he knows me.
Ghana needs to learn to differentiate the genre proper. There are Ghanaian Reggae Veterans who did music like the Kente Band but most of the youths don’t know about them. And it’s not that they don’t know anything about the music, it is just that they don’t know. Not even a lot of people know that Daddy Bosco used to play music with SOZ Squad. So Ninja Man’s opinion is his opinion.”
Black Prophet released his 4th album this year “Stories of Life”, all produced by Dean Fraser in Jamaica, featured Tarrus Riley and Duane Stephenson. Album has 12 songs.
