Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has filed a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, challenging his disqualification from the 2024 presidential race.
Bernard Mornah was among 11 presidential aspirants disqualified by the EC for failing to correct errors on their nomination forms.
According to the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, Mornah’s disqualification stemmed from multiple issues on his nomination forms.
Mr. Bernard Mornah also had incomplete details of supporters. He also used registered voters in a particular district to support the nomination in other districts. His form also contained varying signatures for the same supporters and in some cases, the same signature for different supporters. The committee was of the view that he be disqualified,” she explained.

However, the flagbearer claimed the EC’s decision to disqualify him was arbitrary and violated his rights as a citizen and a political candidate.
He further argues that the EC did not adhere to due process and is seeking judicial intervention to have his candidacy reinstated.
In his lawsuit, Bernard Mornah is demanding “an order of mandamus compelling the 2nd respondent to declare the 1st applicant as duly nominated to contest the 2024 public presidential elections.” He is also seeking an injunction to halt the printing of presidential ballot papers until he is reinstated as a candidate.
