A Kenyan actress, identified as Maureen Wanza, has been reported dead after she bled to death during child birth at a private clinic in Kilifi County on Tuesday.
Wanza was known for her roles in television productions, Sumi and Almasi, among others.
The actress had been rushed to a private clinic after developing complications.
Ann Harmburg, CEO of Ashiners Films, said Wanza’s baby was also lost.
She said:
“It was an emergency. While at the facility, her situation worsened as she gave birth. She bled to death. Unfortunately, her baby also died minutes later.”
Ken Ambani, a fellow actor, said:
“It’s sad not only to me as a friend but to the entire acting industry fraternity.”
Thespian Gerald Langiri posted on social media;
“Maureen will be best remembered for her role as Sasha in the swahili program Sumu which she got nominated for best lead actress in a TV drama at Kalasha awards 2015.”
Her death comes at a time when nurses and doctors in Kenya are on a strike that has lasted for 106 days.
Health services in public hospitals around the country have remained grounded due to the industrial action.
