Women’s Economic Power was the highlight of the #HerMoneyHerPower task carried out by the BBNaija Housemates on Monday.
The task, a part of the #HerMoneyHerPower campaign is based on a gender equality campaign launched by The She Tank in partnership with BellaNaija focusing on pushing for Women’s Economic Power in Nigeria.
The primary goal of the #HerMoneyHerPower campaign is to spark a national dialogue about women’s economic power in Nigeria.
The BBNaija finalists had four activities lined up:
1. A Quiz, testing their knowledge in a fun and competitive format.
2. A Podcast Challenge, where they created a compelling discussion on women’s economic power.
3. A Play, where the importance of women’s financial independence is brought to life through a compelling performance.
4. A Final Presentation, where each of them proposed powerful solutions for women’s economic power to Nigeria’s policymakers and decision-makers.
It is safe to say the BBNaija housemates did justice to the task.
They started off with the quiz which was both informative and entertaining. The housemates’ knowledge on prominent Nigerian women with Economic Power was tested and these housemates definitely knew their onions.
Next was the podcast with each housemate using different real life stories to have a compelling discussion on women’s economic power.
An example was KellyRae who emphasised on how his wife’s economic power has not only been beneficial, it has also helped her achieve more heights as a woman.
The housemates also emphasised on how a woman with economic power, has access, a voice and a choice.
The play which starred two couples – KellyRae and Nelly as well as Sooj and Anita told the story of two homes where the wife in one of the homes had Economic Power while the other didn’t.
In the play, Anita and Sooj were able to convince KellyRae and Nelly on the importance of Women’s Economic Power and encouraged KellyRae to change his ways and encourage his wife to get economic power – a performance that earned kudos from Big Brother himself.
With the final presentation, the housemates had us all glued to our TV screens as they used both personal experiences and concrete data to propose powerful solutions for women’s economic power.
At the end of the day, the goal of these activities were to spark a national conversation on the barriers women face and the importance of economic power and the housemates did deliver!
