Unless you’re living under a rock, or totally staying off social media, you must have heard that the fifth season of BBNaija has started!
The new season of BBNaija kicked off on Sunday, July 19, 2020, with leading entertainment and gaming brand Betway as the show’s headline sponsor.
Last week, the gaming company announced that former BBNaija housemate, and the show’s preferred host for four years in a row, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was being signed on as Betway’s BBNaija ambassador.
As far as we know, no other headline sponsor in the history of the show has signed on an ambassador specifically for BBNaija activities, but it totally makes sense that Ebuka would be selected for such a position.
Ebuka participated in the first-ever season of Big Brother Naija (then known as Big Brother Nigeria) in 2006. While he did not emerge as the show’s winner, he’s arguably the most popular and one of the most successful housemates from the first season of BBNaija.
After the show, Ebuka made a name for himself as a talented TV show host, and when BBNaija returned to our screens in 2017, he was the obvious choice to serve as the show’s host. Since then, Ebuka has only gotten better at his craft and has grown more popular with a large social media following that appreciates his wit.
Ebuka is also an undeniable trendsetter. From his premium agbada to his outfits at the BBNaija live events, Ebuka is accustomed to breaking the internet over his fashion choices.
Today, he’s also Betway’s BBNaija ambassador, and according to Betway’s Country Manager, Lere Awokoya, Ebuka was signed on because he is seen as one of Nigeria’s leading pop culture influencers. He also said that through their partnership, Betway planned to “connect even more with a passionate entertainment audience and bring the ultimate gaming experience to millions of Nigerians.”
When speaking about the partnership with Betway, Ebuka had this to say: “Betway is one of the world’s biggest gaming and entertainment brands, while Big Brother Naija is Africa’s biggest reality TV show. So, I’m incredibly proud and grateful to be involved with both brands. BBNaija season 5 is going to be the biggest and most exciting one yet, and I can’t wait to share all the drama and excitement with Betway customers and BBNaija fans all over the world.”
With Betway, Ebuka, and Big Brother Naija, all we can see is an exciting season ahead.
