In March 2025, Nigerian travel girl and content creator Alma Asinobi announced that she will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to visit all seven continents.

“From Antarctica all the way to Australia in 70 hours with my Nigerian passport,” she wrote on social media.

This feat was not an ambitious challenge it was one that would test not just her endurance but also the limits of what’s possible with a Nigerian passport. This is because we all understand that traveling the world is a dream for many, but doing it in record time? That takes an entirely different level of determination.

In March, she finally set on her journey and as expected, the challenges she faced were numerous.

There were instances where she came face-to-face with the privileges people from other countries experienced as a result of their passport and the same were not accorded to her.

“I was just denied boarding on my flight to Perth, Australia for my final leg of the trip 😞 Due to visa issues, I was put on standby for confirmation from Australia till boarding closed and the gate agent had to rebook me on the next flight to Australia” she wrote in one of her posts.

At the end of her journey, Alma Asinobi did not break the record as she completed the journey in approximately 71 hours, 26 minutes. This was amid multiple visa and passport-related hurdles.

In a world where traveling with a Nigerian passport often means navigating endless bureaucracy, stringent visa requirements, and unexpected delays, Alma’s attempt wasn’t just about speed, it was about resilience, courage, breaking barriers and raising awareness.

The multiple challenges of traveling on a Nigerian passport

When it comes to traveling, many Nigerians understand that the dream of globe-trotting often comes with frustrating visa restrictions, endless paperwork, and last-minute denials. Unlike travelers from more privileged countries who can breeze through immigration, Alma like many other Nigerians had to battle the realities that come with holding a Nigerian passport which include visa denial without refund, waste of time and energy.

Throughout her journey, she faced multiple delays, unexpected detours, and challenges that could have easily made her give up. Yet, she pushed forward, proving that determination can take you far even when the odds are stacked against you.

A journey raising the much-needed awareness

Alma’s journey has also sparked a much-needed conversation about the harsh realities of traveling with a Nigerian passport, from the expensive and time-consuming visa application processes to the constant uncertainty of immigration hurdles.

Many Nigerians face endless stress just to visit a single country, let alone seven in quick succession. As she shared her experience on social media, lots of Nigerians who have faced similar issues used the opportunity to share the bitter tales while making a call for the need for better passport privileges and visa agreements, while also shedding light on the financial and emotional toll that international travel often takes on Nigerians.

Why Alma Aisinobi’s journey is still a record breaker in our books

Alma Asinobi’s attempt is bigger than a world record, it is a symbol of the Nigerian spirit. She dared to take on a challenge that many wouldn’t even consider, knowing full well that the road (or flights) wouldn’t be smooth. Her journey is a reminder that Nigerians are unstoppable, that our passport may be limiting, but our dreams don’t have to be.

Alma Asinobi

An inspiration to us all

Her story is also an inspiration to young Nigerians, especially women, proving that adventure, ambition, and breaking boundaries are not reserved for a select few. If Alma could take on the world, literally, what’s stopping you from chasing your own dreams?

While Alma Asinobi may not have set a new Guinness World Record, she set an even more important one in our hearts, the record for fearlessness, perseverance, and rewriting the narrative of Nigerian travelers.

She may not have completed the journey in record time, but she has certainly made history in her own way.
