In 2012, I shared news on how American First Lady, Michelle Obama wore American-Ghanaian fashion designer, Mimi Plange’s skirt when she paid a visit to ‘The View’ on ABC today to discuss her new book – ‘American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America’. But the first lady isn’t the only who loves Mimi’s creations.

She was seen in this Dress by the designer at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts event in London.
She wore this snakeskin trim and merino wool dress with a black pair of court shoes to the ‘A Life in Pictures – Viola Davis’ at BAFTA
She wore the second look, a colour block front slit dress also by the designer, to the screening of her movie ‘Fences’ with Oscar-Award winning actor Denzel Washington back in November.
Mimi Plange is a Ghana-born, California-raised designer who studied architecture and fashion before relocating to New York, where she cut her teeth working for stylist Patricia Field and designer Rachel Roy. Mimi Plange launched Boudoir D’Huitres in 2007 and became known for eschewing seasonal trends in favour of staying true to her twin influences – Victorian fashion and her African heritage.
Mimi Plange presented her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection during New York Fashion Week at the private residences of The Setai and showed off why she is an up-and-coming designer to look out for. Having just completed a second collaboration of women’s shoes with Manolo Blahnik, the fashionista talked with us about her work thus far as well as her muse for this season’s looks.
