The event which started awfully late came and so I left right after the red carpet ceremony around 11pm. But here is some account of what transpired as reported by Ghanaweb.com.
1. Most awardees didn’t turn up to receive their awards and for those who did, the drama on stage was just over the top.
2. Kumawood’s Lilwin was adjudged the ‘Most Popular actor of the year, and from nowhere, one Ellen Korkor Asante who plays the role of Afia Schwarzenegger jumped on stage to pick the award for him. Not only did she come to the stage uninvited because the publicist of Lilwin was there to take the award, she also decided to speak English and ended up embarrassing herself. No one really understood what she was trying to do, but if that was to make the audience laugh, unfortunately they didn’t.
3. Yaw Dabo on the other hand who won the discovery of the year was carried on stage! After receiving his award amid cheers from the audience, he revealed that he had prophesied unto his life that after losing out on the Kumawood Awards last year he was going to win in Accra. It was a very touching moment indeed for the audience who kept clapping and cheering him up.
4. Then there was John Peassah ‘Drogba’ of Yolo! He was announced winner of two awards, Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama and Discovery of the year (TV) . In an emotional tribute to the man who gave him the opportunity, he knelt in front of Ivan Quashigah, director of Yolo and thanked him for the opportunity to show what he could do after playing extras on several movie sets. However his co-actor from Yolo, Desmond Danso-Sakyi (King George) rather won Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama instead of (Drogba). John Peassah rather won the Discovery of the year (TV) as per the public voting results on www.ghanamovieawards.com
