Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris show a beautiful 3 generations of black women as they cover Harper’s Bazaar latest issue.

In the magazine, the Red Table Talk founders open up about the power of intergenerational conversation.

On issues of injustice:

Willow says:

“The more that you’re aware of the intricacies of oppression, then you can start unwinding it. All of the young people who are influencing change are people who are pushing back against that.”

Adrienne, for her part, sees how injustice has defined America’s opioid crisis:

“It’s always been there. It’s just that it’s [now] hitting a certain group of people.”

Jada says:

“There have been people dying where we’re from for as long as we can remember. That crisis has been popping for a long time,” she pauses. “I’m glad that it’s come to the surface. I’m just trying to learn how not to take things personally and know that everything is in its divine order. That’s what I’ve been working on lately—once you give everything to that divine understanding, you can let all the other personal stuff go. I guess for me, it’s really personal because of the experiences that I’ve had with my mother and a lot of people in my life, so it’s been something we’ve been living with for a long time.”

Talking about the social scene today,

Willow says:

“I would say that most of my friends do have boyfriends, there’s a revolution in relating that’s happening.”

Adrienne says:

“When I was in high school, my last year of high school, I was pregnant and married, so my focus was a little bit different than everybody else’s.”

When Jada was on the dating scene, she says that everyone “coupled up.”

“You kinda went out with one guy and then you didn’t go out with that guy unless you wanted to kick it with them for a long time,” Jada shares. “My generation, you lost your virginity to your boyfriend or to your girlfriend. These days? You have young people that are like, ‘Look, I just wanna find a nice person.’ I’m like, ‘A nice person? That’s it?’”
