In a recent appearance at the Dear Media’s ‘SHE MD’ podcast, hosted by OBGYN Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi and women’s advocate Mary Alice Haney, the actress revealed she froze her eggs when she was 27.

On her reasons, Pugh who spoke extensively on her reproductive journey, said she had to do so because of some health issues.

According to the Oppenheimer star, it all started after she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) – a common hormone imbalance that affects women of childbearing age.

Pugh said: “I had this sudden feeling that I should go and get everything checked. I’d had a few weird dreams; I think my body was telling me.”

In addition to this, the actress revealed she was also diagnosed with endometriosis, a chronic condition in which tissue similar to the uterus lining grows outside the uterus.

Since both conditions could indeed lead to fertility complications, her doctor suggested she freeze her eggs.

“She asked if I’d ever had an egg count done,” Florence Pugh, now 28, told the hosts. “And I was like, ‘No what do you mean? I’m so young. Why do I need an egg count?’”

The actress also spoke on how she received the news.

She said, “It was just so bizarre because my family are baby-making machines.

“My mum had babies into her 40s. My gran had babies throughout…and then, of course, I learned completely different information, at age 27, that I need to get my eggs out and do it quickly, which was just a bit of a mind-boggling realization and one that I’m really lucky and glad that I found out when I did because I’ve been wanting kids since I was a child.”

Since her diagnosis, Pugh has used the opportunity to help others going through similar situations, such as her friends.

“I think two or three of my friends have gone to go and get checked because of my findings and they’ve also found that they have the same thing,” she said.

“So already just by me learning the tiniest bit of information, it’s led for other women to go and check to see if they also have the same.”

Florence Pugh having to is one of the many celebrities who have opened up about their PCOS journey – a condition affecting 1 in 10 women around the world.

These celebrities have used their different platforms to bravely share their personal struggles with PCOS, shedding light on the physical, emotional, and mental challenges they’ve faced.

A specialist who spoke with 234Star revealed this condition has no cure, but if it’s diagnosed early, it’ll help with woman to understand what’s going on with her body. Especially since women are not routinely screened for PCOS.

He also noted that early screening helps with timely intervention and keeps women better informed of what is going on with their bodies.
