It is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition, but Friday the 13th of July was a beautiful day at the Tomreik Hotel in East Legon Accra, when the most stunning girls from various parts of Ghana showed up all glammed up for a shot at the most prestigious prize in GH Beauty Pageantry, Miss Malaika Ghana!

With Queens and past contestants like Berla Mundi, Regina Van Helwit, Caroline Sampson, Hamamat Montia, Anita Akufo and many others making great strides in their various fields of endeavour and influencing society in many positive ways, it was no shock when over 300 ladies came from far and near for a shot at the crown which currently sits on the head of the adorable Pearl Nyarko, Miss Malaika 2017.

Prior to this very first encounter, pageant organizers Charterhouse launched the social media campaign, “Tag A Queen” which saw many Ghanaians post photos of ladies they deemed fit to wear the crown and tagging the various Charterhouse handles with the hashtag, #Malaika2018. That process saw some 25 gorgeous ladies automatically graduated to the second stage of auditions which will look a little past the beauty of face and figure and test for intellect and more.

Sitting in on the search panel with the task of selecting the most beautiful among the lot on Friday were Showbiz personality, PR Practitioner and Entrepreneur, Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku with Award-Winning Actress, Radio Host and Entrepreneur, Joselyn Canfor-Dumas and Actor James Gardiner adding a twist of machismo to the mix. Between the three celebrity judges, some 70 charming ladies were graduated to the next stage of the competition leaving well over 200 others broken hearted.

The semi-final stage, which is the next stage will give the ladies the final opportunity to justify their inclusion in final 20 that will make it to boot camp. Four will be eliminated at bootcamp leaving a final 16 to battle for the crown.

Miss Malaika Ghana is a Charterhouse Ghana Production.
