The suspect linked to the tragic death of a final-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been remanded in prison custody for two weeks.

The deceased, identified as Joana Yabane, was discovered unresponsive behind the Central Laboratory on campus in the early hours of Thursday. Following an investigation at the crime scene, the police arrested Daniel Tuffour as the prime suspect.

On Friday, February 28, he was arraigned before Kumasi Circuit Court 2, where the judge ordered his remand. The incident has sparked widespread concern among students and the general public, with many calling for improved security on campus.

In an official statement, the KNUST management confirmed that Joana’s body was found near the university’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre around 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025. The university has assured students that security measures have been enhanced to ensure their safety.

According to DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, CCTV footage from the university campus was instrumental in identifying Tuffuor as a key suspect.
