Media personality Lamide Akintobi has launched a collaboration with affordable fashion brand The5kshop, called “#WhatLamideWore x The 5k Shop”.

The 8 piece capsule collection consists of paperbag high-waisted pants in 3 different colours, a high waisted pencil skirt, a pencil dress, and three tops.

Lamide currently hosts and produces  “Classic Moments: True Stories” airing on EbonyLife TV. She’s also the editor of Diaspora Quarterly Magazine, an event host and content consultant.

Q: Why a fashion collaboration?

A: I really like fashion, and while I don’t think I’m necessarily the most fashion forward person, I know what I like, and I know what works for me, my shape, and my lifestyle. I call it “comfy chic.” As a bit of a tomboy, I’m more likely to be in jeans or outfits that let me move around comfortably. At the same time, because I’m pretty slender, when I want to dress up a bit, my go-to silhouette is form-fitting/pencil because it flatters my shape.

Q: Why a collaboration with The 5k Shop?

A: I’m actually a long time customer. I love that their pieces are fashionable, affordable (nothing is over N5,000. They also have a premium line called MyT5s, but none of those pieces are over N10,000), made in Nigeria, and durable. The affordability is the best part for me, because we all have responsibilities, so even though we want to look good, we don’t always want to break the bank. I’m a freelancer, so I gotta be frugal, but I still have to look good for events, and pulled together for meetings and every day activities. Also, the founder of The 5k shop, Sophia Ike-Onu, is an amazing lady and I love her drive and spirit. I love working with people like her.

Q: What was the process, and What’s your favorite piece in the collection?

A: I picked the designs for the pants and top, picked the corresponding fabrics, and the 5k Shop team did the rest. My favourite look has gotta be the paint splash co-ord set. You can wear it with the shirt tucked in and it looks like a jumpsuit, or tucked out for a different look. You can also wear either piece solo. I adore the print as well. When I saw it, I just had to have it.

Q: Why is it called “What Lamide Wore”?

A: It’s a hashtag I use when I post outfit shots on instagram, so I thought it’d be cute to use it for this as well.
