Best-selling author, Toke Makinwa‘s ex-husband, Maje Ayida, has filed a lawsuit against her following the release of her tell-all book, ‘On Becoming‘, which documented their marital issues.
According to The Cable, Maje, who hired UK and Nigerian lawyers to represent him has demanded that further sale of the books be stopped immediately, and copies which have already been sold be retrieved.
The best-selling book accused Maje of adultery, infecting her with STDs, not contributing to the upkeep of the home and many more, most of which his lawyers claim are false.
In the letter, Maje stated that he had asked for separation six months after they got married in January 2014 and that they signed a legal separation in July of the same year, which was never stated in the book.
‘The words complained of are not only malicious and untrue but also constitute a mischievous and unconscionable attack on on the person of our client. As a result of your said publication, our client has been brought into public ridicule and inundated with vitriol, odium and scorn’, the court papers stated, claiming also that the book was exaggerated for selfish gains and profit.
She was given seven days upon receipt of the letter to comply with the demands or they’d be forced to seek legal action.
The lawyers emphasized that the letter had done nothing but damage Maje’s reputation, which in turn has had a negative impact on his job as a health fitness instructor, a career that had taken him years of hard work and dedication to build.
