A true hype man isn’t on stage to get shine for himself. He’s there to enhance whatever the main artist is doing. Plus, a real hype man never fails to get the crowd going, whether it’s saying different things on the mic, dancing, or stage diving. The best ones also have their signature moves and phrases.

Unlike the few known MCs or Night Club MCs like Kojo Manuel, MC Lyrical, Sheldon the turn-up, Berima Sean Bills and others, little is known about the MC who has kept patrons of Accra’s favourite Night Club throughout the years with his piercing voice or sweet hype every Fridays and Sundays.

As I walked into the club with my cousin who doubles as the CEO of emerging event house Davido Exclusive Entertainment an affiliate of Afrobeat superstar Davido’s imprint DMW/30 BG, the MC shouts his name shouts to Davido today 50 bottles…. I smile and turn back to see who that was.

Downing a Black hoodie, the Asamoah Gyan mu MC as he calls himself, literally meaning the captain of all Mcees gives another shouts to popular paparazzi blogger  Ronnie is everywhere.

George “Salty” Agyare, head of urban music promotions at the North Kaneshie based record label Black Avenue Musik tells me Jay Tyme is his favourite MC and admires his hard work.

Growing up from Korle Gonno, Jay Tyme comes from a family of musicians notably among them is Dancehall brands Jupiter who is his biological brother and Shatta Wale who he grew up with.

Jay Tyme ability to engage the crowd from midnight to somewhere 7 am is something that will take a few MCs to do.

Artiste manager and manager of Club Onyx Emmanuel Offei call him the life of the party. He can wildly engage the crowd at Oynx and keep their energy level at 100%.

Call it hype, call it gyrating, some people even call it gingering, the bottom line is that club, show, concert, event of yours is not complete without someone like Jay Tyme to keep the crowd’s energy going.
