We’re celebrating women of excellence in our media sphere and Nana Aba Anamoah is our topic of discussion today. In a male dominated industry like Ghana, women are quantitatively under-represented. An undeniable fact none can overlook. Yet few Ghanaian women have have sailed through the storm and broken off the shell of been misrepresented as well as posing a trailblazers, resourceful, powerful and elegant women who are fiercely competing with their male counterparts for position and power in the creative industry to positively help and impact the society.

The likes of Nana Aba Anamoah, Peace Hyde, Anita Erskine, Berla Mundi, Gifty Anti, Yvonne Nelson and many others are the main objective for this article. They are doing amazing stuffs which needs to be commended and louded.

Using Nana Aba Anamoah as case study, the professionalism with which she tackles her work has never been in doubt and several young journalism students look up to her as a role model. Though sometime past, she had backlashes, she never used that as a bait to give. Rather, she stood strong like a mountain to get to the top of her game.

The results of her work inputs, working spirit, positive fighting spirit, ethics, professionalism and friendliness is evident in winning the following awards under her sleeves; TV Personality of the Year, Ghana Journalist Association News Reporter of the Year, TV News Anchor of the Year, RTP TV Female Presenter of the Year and Female Newscaster of the Year among other prestigious awards.

She was previously hosted the Diva Show and was a newscaster for Ghanaian broadcast network, TV3. She was suspended because of a photo shopped image she tweeted that implied she attended a Manchester United soccer match, when she had not. Nana Aba resigned following the suspension.

Nana Aba then moved on to Ghana’s EIB Networks on the channel GHOne, where she hosted a political show titled “State of Affairs”. After several months at GHOne TV, she began to anchor the station’s evening news, titled “GhOne News Tonight” and also campaigned massively against the abuse of tramadol.

Nana Aba was appointed an ambassador of the SOS Village in Ghana. SOS Village ambassadors ware reputable personalities who are passionate and committed to solving the problems of child abandonment, destitution and the orphaned in collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages Ghana.

This is not to say the men are not bringing out their best when it comes to inspiring and motivating the youth to achieve their dreams or follow in their footsteps. But they say when “you educate a woman, you educate a nation” and these women are living their lives as mentors for Ghanaians and beyond. We appreciate all the other women in media and other disciplines who are helping to make Ghana a better place for us.
